Step by Step

Step 1
General outline + Shading guides, Compressed Charcoal applied directly, Charcoal dust not yet removed

Step 2
Remove the charcoal dust with least damage :P
Adding shades using vine charcoal, charcoal powder and some features using charcoal pencils.

  • Damn, its difficult to draw the face with charcoal. Need to fix it a little bit.

Step 3
Enhance the shades and features.
Hair needs to merge in to the background !

Close to final, Need to make the shades and feature sharp to get the final finish.

Mistakes
I had made too many corrections in the facial region, after a point the paper itself was damaged. Thats why the facial region is brighter that the rest of the body. I dint have the guts to raise the gray level in that region as it might screw up all the features. Will try some other quality of paper next time.

  1. After you have finished a charcoal or pastel drawing you will have to use a fixative to fix it to your paper. If you do not, it will rub or flake off.
